Class Derwen

Teacher Gabby Brown
Welcome:
I hope you have all had a lovely summer! My name is Mrs Brown and I am really looking forward to teaching your child throughout the duration of the year. I will be working alongside the fabulous Mrs Beamson where we aim to provide a fun, hands-on learning experience within a safe and stimulating environment, which will promote your child’s education.
Key Info:
Children are welcome to bring in a piece of fruit each day and they also have their own water bottle in class with free access to this during the day. Please ensure all medical and dietary information is up to date with the office.
Pupils will be given log ins to access online interventions at home should they wish to continue their learning.
Your child’s reading book will be changed on a MONDAY however reading takes place throughout the week so your child needs to ensure their book bag is in school EVERY DAY. Any damaged / lost books will need to be replaced by parents / guardians at a cost of £5. Please ensure you are reading with your children on a regular basis.
Please can we also remind you to put your child’s name in all items of their uniform, including shoes and coats.
Forest School/PE:
PE will take place every Wednesday so children should come to school in their active uniform. We are currently in the process of having a new outdoor area being built behind our classroom, therefore you child will need to make sure that they come to school dressed in appropriate footwear and have a warm coat for when the weather gets colder as this outdoor section will be used throughout the whole year.
Our forest school sessions will be held each TUESDAY afternoon. Please ensure your child comes into school ready for this session in the correct clothing:
- School jumper or fleece.
- Outdoor shoes/ wellies available for the session (pupils will be given the opportunity to change shoes).
- A warm and waterproof coat.
- Warm hats and gloves (when the weather is cooler).
What we are learning:
At the start of this term, the children will have an opportunity to discuss what they would like to learn about and together we will create a plan. Our topic this term will be ‘I have a dream!’ We will be going on a journey to find out about what makes us shine and what makes us special. This theme will help us to explore our feelings, emotions and discover our hidden talents. We will find out how to reach our goals and what we need to do in order to achieve them.
During the spring Term we will be going back in time to learn all about the Celts. We will be using natural dyes to make our own clothing, having a Celtic feast and learning all about Iron Age culture and different societies.
In the Summer Term we will be find out all about disasters that have happened over the years and learn about how to keep safe, promote environmental awareness and responsible behaviour.
