Parent Involvement

At Ysgol Swn y Don we are passionate about engaging with and building effective partnerships with our parents, carers and families. Working together and actively taking part within school life has a positive impact on improving pupil progress and most importantly their well-being.

Our mission is to make Ysgol Swn y Don the heart of the school community, and we are working hard with parents and outside agencies such as Catrefi Conwy to strengthen our home school and community links.

Throughout the year we host a number of opportunities which promote our pupils work and celebrates what they have been learning about in school. We also host numerous fundraising events to help school funds, local charities and worldwide initiatives such as Children in Need. We also provide parents, carers and families with an array of activities throughout the academic year. These activities provide parents/carers with a variety of sessions with their child, including learning outside the classroom activities.

We are proud of our parent support group. “Friends of the School.” Or more commonly knonw as the FOTS. Louise Roberts (Family Liasion Officer) leads the group along with a number of parents, who support our school events. If you would like to join please get in touch.

SCHOOL UNIFORM INFORMATION

LEAt Sŵn y Don we encourage all children to wear a school uniform – a uniform creates a feeling of togetherness and belonging for the children.

Our uniform was designed in conjunction with families. It is intended to enable pupils to take part in a range of school activities including: Physical Education, outdoor learning and forest school activities, without the need for pupils to change during the day. We do not require pupils to have a separate PE uniform.

If you are on a low income, it is important for you to still make an application for Free School Meals for your children regardless of the universal provision because the Free School Meal Benefit eligibility makes other benefits available to you. You can apply online via the Conwy County Borough Council website (type if Free School Meals).

PACKED LUNCHES
Pupils may bring their own sandwiches to school but parents/carers are asked to follow the school’s healthy eating policy, as what the children eat may affect their concentration, behaviour and learning potential during the afternoon. All drinks must be in a leak proof plastic container. Hot drinks/food are not allowed.

We do have some children and staff with a nut allergy and therefore do not permit any foods that contain nuts to be brought into school. May we also ask that you cut foods such as grapes lengthways to minimise any risk. We appreciate your co-operation with this.
