Year 3/4 Class Page

Teacher : Mr Roberts

Welcome to Year 3 & 4. My name is Mr Roberts and I will be teaching your children this academic year. I do hope you have all had a wonderful summer holiday, and have managed to spend some quality family time together. We’ve had some wonderful weather, and with many restrictions having been lifted I hope you have been able to enjoy some of the aspects of life that we have not been able to enjoy for so long.

As you are aware, Miss Hughes is currently on maternity leave until after the Christmas period, therefore, we are very fortunate to have the wonderful Miss McDermott, supporting the children in class this year. Miss McDermott and I are very much looking forward to welcoming the children back.

The following overview will give you a brief idea as to what’s going on during the Autumn term. Our theme for this term is based on the book ‘Matilda’, written by the magnificent author, Roald Dahl:

This term, Year 3 & 4 will learn to develop an inquisitive and curious mind-set through exploring the sub-themes of Good versus Evil! We will use the story of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ to produce some exciting pieces of creative writing based on the works of Pie Corbett. We will be covering different types of genre writing, such as newspaper reports, diary entries, instructions and persuasive advertisements. As authors, they will create fictional pieces of writing by using their imagination to write play scripts, stories and poems. As scientists, they will further develop their understanding of the human body, whilst exploring forces & magnets.

In turn, as geographers, they will become familiar with the work and influence of famous explorer Ranulph Fiennes to consolidate their understanding of world maps and atlases. As mathematicians, they will be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication & division, measurement, collecting and recording data and much more. Finally, in art the children will learn about different illustrators and local Welsh artists to help develop their creative skills.

Weekly events:

PE is on a Monday afternoon this term and the children will need to come into school already in their PE uniform. Could you please also ensure that your child is wearing suitable clothes for the outdoors and the activity. We will be focusing on developing their gymnastics and hockey skills during these sessions.

Forest School with Mrs Davies will take place every Wednesday morning. The class will be split into 2 groups and the children will alternate every other week.  Please be mindful that the weather can be unpredictable and therefore, ensure your child is appropriately dressed for all types of weather conditions.
