Class Gorwel

Teacher Katie Dickson

We’re so happy to welcome your children into Dosbarth Gorwel (year 5 and 6) this year. My name is Mrs Dickson, and I’ll be working alongside my wonderful classroom assistant Miss Roberts. We are also fortunate to have Miss Goodson joining us on a Monday afternoon offering forest school sessions.

Key Info:

Children welcome to bring in a piece of fruit each day to eat during break time. Children also each have their own water bottle in class with free access to this during the day. Gorwel are also being given the opportunity to go to Nant BH for a couple of nights in November. This is an invaluable experience which I would strongly suggest all children take part in. It always provides lifelong memories that your children will cherish.

Forest School/PE:

Our forest school sessions will be held each Monday afternoon with Miss Goodson. Please ensure your child comes into school ready for this session in the correct clothing:

  • School jumper or fleece.
  • Outdoor shoes/ wellies available for the session (pupils will be given the opportunity to change shoes).
  • A warm and waterproof coat.
  • Warm hats and gloves (when the weather is cooler).

Your children will be immersed in a range of exciting and interesting activities both in class and through learning outside the classroom, for this reason, we ask that children come into school prepared for outdoor learning activities by wearing their active uniform and a warm, waterproof coat. The active uniform is also essential for P.E. which is on a Friday. Please ensure that clothing is appropriate for each season, as outdoor learning will be taking place throughout the year come rain, wind or shine (within reason).

What we are learning:

Our topic for this Autumn term is “Blast from the Past” and we will be exploring World War 2 and what life was like during that time. During the Spring term our topic will be “Flying High” during which children will investigate birds and other things that move in our skies. The summer term’s topic is “Seeing is Believing” when the children will learn about how our bodies work and how best to look after them.
